How to Setup a Microsoft Authenticator Passkey

Summary

This guide will walk you through how to set up a Microsoft Authenticator passkey within the app. 

Before you begin:

• Install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone.
• Ensure that your Clinton Community College Microsoft 365 account has been added and registered into the app.
• Your Microsoft Authenticator app is fully updated.

Procedure

1. Visit Microsoft 365 or another Microsoft sign-in page and sign in with your CCC account.
   
    
2. Approve the sign-in request in Microsoft Authenticator if prompted.
    
3. If your account is eligible, you will see a message similar to"Set up a passkey."
   
    
4. Select Set up a passkey.
5. Follow the prompts on your device.
    
6. Choose your preferred verification method:
   • Fingerprint
   • Face recognition
   • Device PIN
7. Complete the registration process.

8. Once complete, your passkey will be ready to use for future sign-ins.

What to Expect After Setup

The next time you sign in:

1. Enter your username.
2. Approve the sign-in request if prompted.
3. Use your fingerprint, face recognition, or device PIN to complete authentication.

Most users will find this process faster and more secure than traditional password-based sign-ins.
