Installing and Accessing the VPN

Summary

This article covers the procedure for installing the VPN client and what settings should be in place for accessing the VPN.

Below you will sections for installing the client, setting up the client, accessing the VPN, and disconnecting from the VPN.

 

Procedure

  1. Download the VPN client: 
    • Windows: Windows Client
    • MacOS Client: See "Attachments" on this article.
  2. Once downloaded, run the installer, which should be named "Forcepoint-VPN-Client-x64.msi"
  3. Click "Next" on the first screen.

  4. Check the box for "I accept the terms in the License Agreement" and click "Next"

  6. Click "Yes" on the UAC prompt to continue the installation.
  7. Once completed, click "Finish"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  8. Restart your computer before proceeding.
  1. After restarting your computer, search for "Forcepoint VPN Client" and open it.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  2. After opening, you should get the default screen - click on "Connect to New Gateway:

  3. In the following pop-up window, set the following settings, if not already set, then click "OK":
    • Hostname: 137.142.255.30
    • Protocol: SSL
    • Port: 443
    • Authentication: User NameUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
       
  4. After clicking "OK", you will be asked if you want to connect to the gateway - click "OK"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  5. You should now be presented with a login prompt - you will need to login to the prompt for the first time for it to save:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  6. Using your NetID provided by SUNY Plattsburgh, enter your username and password, then click "OK"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
     
  7. You will be prompted for DUO on the device you set it up with when setting up the NetID - approve the login request.
  8. You should now see that the VPN is connected.

  1. Search for "Forcepoint VPN Client" and open it.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. Click on "Connect" when the main window opens.

  3. You should now be presented with a login prompt - you will need to login to the prompt for the first time for it to save:Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

  6. You should now see that the VPN is connected.

  7. Connect to your machine opening "Remote Desktop Connection" on your computer and typing the name (or IP) of your computer, then clicking "Connect"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

 

Disconnecting from the VPN

  1. When you are done working, first disconnect from the Remote Desktop Session.
  2. In your icon tray, find the Forcepoint icon:

  3. Right-click on the icon, then select "Disconnect"

  4. After 5-10 seconds, you will see another window appear, asking you to login again - click "Cancel"

Additional Notes

  • You will need your computer name or IP to remote desktop into your computer.
